About

I am a full time missionary with Youth With A Mission (or YWAM). YWAM is a Christian volunteer organization with over 1000 bases in over 180 countries. Their three main focuses are evangelism, training, and mercy ministries. This concept is drawn from Luke 10:27, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbour as yourself.”

Although all three areas of YWAM’s ministries are intertwined, my main area of focus is mercy ministries, specifically, ships ministry. All over the world YWAM operates ships that provide free medical care to those who cannot access basic health care services. YWAM Ships Kona operates several of these ships, and I serve aboard the m/v YWAM Liberty, stationed in Papua New Guinea.
Papua New Guinea is a remote island nation in Pacific Oceana, with over 9 million people across over 1300 islands. 84% of the population lives in rural remote villages, making it one of the most challenging nations to deliver healthcare in the world. Mountains, jungles, rivers, and islands contribute to the isolation of the peoples, and has also contributed to the more than 850 tribal languages present within the country.

The YWAM Liberty travels to villages in remote coastal areas, and there we are able to provide primary health care services, things you wouldn’t think twice about in countries like Canada, such as the ability to see a doctor when you’re not feeling well. Malaria and Tuberculosis are national emergencies in Papua New Guinea. We also provide vaccinations for children, antenatal checkups, optical care (such as reading glasses and distance glasses), dental care (in our clinic aboard the ship), and ophthalmologic care (that means eye surgeries!).

The Liberty also engages with other sectors of community evangelism, such as oral bible translation, distribution of Operation Christmas Child boxes, local training and educational services, and water filtration.

I was trained as a Registered Nurse in Canada, and I have always been passionate about helping and serving others. When I found this ministry in 2017, it brought a sense of joy and life that I had never experienced before, perfectly merging my skills and talents with God’s call on my life to care for the least of these (Matt 25:40).

My role aboard the Liberty is the Chief Medical Administrator. I am in charge of everything medical that happens on board the ship. I collaborate with local health institutions to see what services are needed most and in what areas, I coordinate the running of our clinics (both on-shore and on-board), and I am passionate about training and raising up other health professionals: locals, to be able to better serve their own communities, but also internationals and other YWAMers, to be able to multiply what I do, so that we can continue to grow and reach more isolated places. Not just in Papua New Guinea, but in the whole of the South Pacific!
